Empire State College's Associate of Science in General Studies is designed to provide a strong academic foundation and a set of essential skills. The AS program is an excellent option for students who have completed some college credits but have not yet earned a degree. It allows you to transfer in more credits and personalize a degree.
Many students who choose this degree program will do so while already on a pathway towards a bachelor’s degree. The interdisciplinary approach of the program makes it possible for students to explore their academic interests without having to define a disciplinary focus, while laying a foundation for the next step in their educational path.

- An associate degree usually takes two years of study and prepares students for employment or transfer to a bachelor’s program at a four-year university.
