Teaching mathematics effectively at the elementary level requires much more than the ability to carry out four arithmetical operations. The teacher must have a deep understanding of the concepts behind the mathematical skills being taught and must be able to present these concepts in a variety of ways. This course will help teacher candidates develop their own understanding of the mathematics, as well as explore strategies and models for teaching mathematics at the elementary level.
