Enhances basic reading skills necessary for successful completion of other content area courses. Develops ability to read and study textbook materials effectively; discover main ideas in paragraphs; discover meaning through use of absolute and conditional language; note details and make inferences; recognize structural devices in sentences and paragraphs; draw conclusions; outline and summarize; take notes from written and oral material; use proper form and style for research paper writing; develop vocabulary; prepare for and take exams; and develop study skills. Requires completion of 12 clock hours of individualized laboratory work for improvement of specific skill needs. Graded on an S-R-U-W basis. Not applicable toward any degree or certificate.
