Students will examine music of the United States from Colonial America to the present. Centered on American music, topics include development of several immigrant traditions including African-American, Latin-American, Protestant Christian, and Jewish European traditions as well as the roles of BIPOC musicians in musical communities. The course consists of lecture/discussions, guided and independent listening, writing assignments, and periodic examinations. For the general student as well as for music majors and minors.
