This course examines the role of gender within and across formal and informal educational institutions. An emphasis will be placed on theoretical foundations for analyzing gender as well as the role of race, class, and sexuality within studies of gender in education. The course uses a historical approach to studying contemporary issues in gender in education in areas such as higher education, K-12 institutions, media representations, the school to prison pipeline, and athletics. Fall.
