This course explores the causes, effects, and experiences of migration from a sociological perspective. The course will contextualize immigration to the United States within global, historical and contemporary patterns, including empire, early waves of European migration, post-colonial migration, and responses to globalization. In addition to outlining the history of immigration policies in the US, the course will analyze the discourses surrounding these policies and examine the factors that shape migrants€™ incorporation into new communities..
