This course examines the different ways of teaching and learning algebra. We examine the development of algebraic thinking in elementary, middle and high schools. Specific topics explored include variables, expressions, equations and functions. By exploring research in these areas, we discuss best classroom practices to help students develop their algebraic understanding, determine areas of difficulty and avoid misconceptions.
