In this interdisciplinary course, we will explore the Soviet film as a tool for constructing a sensory experience and a framework for emotional expression. Films will be analyzed through the lens of the History of Emotions and contemporary theories of embodied spectatorship. Focusing on the phenomenology of the viewing experience, we will explore how Soviet filmmakers achieved embodied engagement with the viewer and how the techniques of embodied engagement with the viewer shaped ethical values.
