Leading public and nonprofit organizations and coalitions is a privilege and a challenge. In this course, students will learn and practice the skills and competencies they will need to serve as ethical and effective leaders. The course will survey contemporary leadership theories with a focus on servant leadership. We will explore individual qualities of leadership, effective leadership of teams, organizations and networks, and the particular challenges posed by leading public service organizations. The course meets the requirement of the Managing People and Organizations category for MPA students. Graduate students or advanced undergraduates with permission. No prerequisites.
