In this election year, we’ll take a deep dive into the very concept of democracy itself. We’ll discuss democracy from three aspects: (1) What do we expect from it? Is it freedom, participation, multiplicity of ideas, or something else? (2) Does it work the way it is intended to? Are processes like elections and lobbying, or institutions like the Supreme Court and the Congress democratic in practice? (3) If it is not working, what alternatives do we have to turn to? Should we reform democracy with some limitations like voter licenses, age limits for offices, etc.? Or, should we consider some other forms of government?
