Take your class online with SUNY
You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students
An introduction to the world of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, prions, and protists, with an emphasis on bacteria. The goals of this course are to introduce the fundamental biology of microbes including their structure and growth, their metabolism and genetics, and their functions in natural and artificial environments. The course builds on these fundamentals to discuss, especially, the importance of microbes in human health and disease and, to lesser extent, their roles in food production, industry, and ecology. Whatever your background in science, this course will build on what you already know and will extend that knowledge into a whole new world, the invisible world of microbes. Pre-req: BIO 109, Human Biology or BIO 101, Principles of Biology I.
